Solo

I've been working on some of my own stuff for quite a while now. It's taking time -- a lot more than I would like for it to take, but I'd rather spend more time and get it right rather than throw something out just to get it done.

The Canvas

The Canvas formed from three of the members of Aref & Shahin; Brett on drums, Shahin on guitar and myself on bass. The three of us play together well, and we're working on forming our own song while playing out at good gigs about once or twice a month.

Aref & Shahin

I met this group through an ad they posted at a local music shop. These guys were doing a kind of a Flamenco/Gypsy/Latin thing (a melange of world influences). It was a challenge for me, because I had never really played those styles of music before. Eventually, though, some conflicts in professional goals caused the group to part ways.

Jar of Souls

I started playing with these guys in May of '03. I met Rich and Matt through the Washington City Paper, and we played together through June of '04. It was a good experience, one in which I learned a lot more than I would have thought, but the time came when I was heading in a different direction than the rest of the band. No hard feelings, just different goals.

DH/CC

I met Douglass through the City Paper as well. He and Christine are doing a kind of folky rock, with a heavy country influence. I went in to the studio with them to record a demo. The two of them are writing some really melodic stuff, with good harmonies.

In The Pocket/Bad Sneakers

These guys were some of the best musicians as a group with whom I have had the privilege of playing. The band was mostly doing covers, but the kind of covers that were musically interesting (Steely Dan, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Annie Lennox). We only played out once or twice, but we killed when we did.

Turning Heads

Another cover band with the occasional original thrown in. We had a pretty good sound (and one hell of a drummer -- easily my favorite in the area), but the band didn't last all that long. The singer had a family, and he couldn't make enough time for the band. Just speaking for me, I completely understand and unequivocally support his decision. Music is important, but he not only made a choice to marry his wife, he had a child with her. That has to come first.
